A graduate of Paris II Panthéon Assas University and holding a Specialized Master’s degree from ENSAE ParisTech, Chloé Saurel began her doctoral research in October 2020 on access to energy in sub-Saharan Africa, under the supervision of Ahmed Tritah and Sandra Cavaco. The aim of her research is to assess the impact of rural electrification, particularly on health inequalities and inequalities within households.
She defended her thesis on in 2025.
The energy transition is a worldwide endeavor that most countries have come to acknowledge, thanks to the work of scientists all over the world. The use of fossil fuels in our energy-intensive economies for the past centuries has dramatically increased global warming (+1.5 degrees Celsius since preindustrial times), and public policies play a key role in the fight against this highly alarming trend. This dissertation focuses on three aspects of the economics of energy transition
This paper reviews the evidence from the recent literature regarding the impact of electricity on rural households. The authors' reading of the currently available evidence suggests that while access to electricity is necessary to support local economic development and stimulate a more inclusive labor market, it is however not sufficient.
The event will address the crucial intersection between global energy transition and development, with a specific focus on exploring effective policy instruments.
